Signed skin properties
Understand texture URLs, models, signatures, and cape data.
SkinsRestorer 15.12.6All platformsReviewed
Minecraft profiles carry a textures property. Its value is Base64-encoded JSON. Its signature authenticates that value.
What the property contains
The decoded data can include a skin URL, model metadata, and a cape URL. A skin texture URL identifies an image on Minecraft's texture service.
A texture hash is the identifier at the end of that URL. It is not a player UUID or a saved SkinsRestorer custom name.
Why a PNG needs generation
A local PNG does not contain a signed profile property. A generation service uploads the image and returns the property that a server can apply.
Changing the encoded value without a matching signature makes the signature invalid. Keep the value and signature together when storing or transferring a property.
Model and cape
Classic and slim use different arm layouts. The image and model metadata must agree.
A cape belongs to the complete profile property. Copying an account property can copy its equipped cape. The website can also generate supported cape combinations through its cape-aware route.
Showing that property on a server does not transfer account ownership of a cape.
Next
Upload an image, or fetch and apply a property through the API.
